First Intermediate Coaching Workshop

Presented by Lynne Barrie and Neil Peek on November 6th 2011 in the West Midlands.

The delegates had all been to our introductory course or other coaching workshops and had practical experience of coaching. In discussion it came to light that they were concerned that after their initial excitement from coming to the first course they felt they were slipping back at times to instruction. They needed a new day like this to further develop their skills and meet up again with like-minded ADIs. They appreciated the day to refresh their ideas and consider new ones. The delegates worked through practical sessions and watched video clips from Neil and Lynne’s own coaching sessions with clients.

Topics covered included tools and techniques practised and their success, barriers to coaching, the importance of self-evaluation and good feedback techniques. The delegates also practised coaching conversations and the day was delivered in a coaching style that meant situations were discussed and delegates came up with their own ideas and solutions to areas of concern.

“Thank you so much for today's workshop, my mind has been racing again after the injection of the Lynne Barrie and Neil Peek ‘medicine’. I met with a lot of likeminded people doing a similar role to me and found that their issues were common to my own and although driving instruction can be a lonely road in a one man band, there are some talented people out there who can complement what we are all doing.  Keep developing the workshops and working on a continuous improvement path. Once again, Lynne thanks for a great day”.
Mike Evans

“Many thanks for a great day yesterday really enjoyed the course.   It has given me more confidence to get on with it. Again, many thanks to both of you for a great day”.
Dave Griffin

“I wanted to extend my thanks to Lynne and Neil for today's coaching workshop. It was the first time I've attended one with them & I felt the experience was very useful. I feel better prepared & hope to be more ready to approach a coaching style with my learner students”.
Darren Paine

“We all enjoyed our day with you yesterday and have already put several ideas in place .Becki is buzzing with enthusiasm after attending the course and Louise is excited about a new approach to 'teaching'. Mind mapping roundabouts has helped several of my pupils today.”
Sue Papworth

Coaching Workshop

The latest coaching for driver development workshop was held in the West Midlands. By the end of the day the delegates had a good understanding of what coaching is, how to use different methods of coaching, the benefits and how to get started. They went away with tools, tips and techniques to use and also an understanding of learning styles including their own style of learning. Below are some of the comments from the delegates.

"A huge thank you to you both for a really great informative coaching seminar. For the ADI that has not been on this seminar, it really is a must do. I had a pupil with one hour teaching under his belt, and he stated he was not sure if driving was for him, (at 40 years old he had managed so far without his own car) he was having a few lessons to see if he could manage driving a vehicle.
With this in mind, I knew it was a very fine line between keeping him on my books or losing him forever. Seminar loaded in mind, I asked him what he would like to do today, he said "reversing" I asked why he chose that subject, he stated he had chosen that subject because all the time he was thinking about driving lessons that is the thing that reared up in his mind most of all, and if he could reverse then he said I will feel confident enough to carry on. So, off we went to do some reversing exercises, the 20 minute video Neil showed us came to mind here. It sounds impossible, but he did, a reverse left around a corner, parallel park, and a bay park to a very good standard, the week before he could hardly use his clutch, let alone reverse, he scored himself 6.
How does it work? If you are an ADI that has not been to this seminar, you really need to attend to understand the above, if you have attended, you know exactly what I am talking about. Oh, by the way, the pupil booked 20 lessons and paid in front for them: now that is money well spent! I kept my pupil, and gained a knowledge base I thought never existed."
Bob ADI, Skegness

"I would Just like to thank you both for the seminar I attended last Sunday in Kingswinford as I found it very eye opening and interesting. I have been trying out some of the methods and my pupils really love it, the 1-10 self assessment is a big hit with them all. The mind mapping and story board is very useful too."
Andy Mackinder ADI

"Thank you for a most enjoyable and worthwhile course on Sunday. I’ve learnt many new things which I feel will be an asset to my business and to my pupils."
 April Whetton ADI

Coach Trip! Plymouth, May 2010: APDI (South West) host the latest Lynne Barrie Neil Peek Driving Instructor Coaching Seminar

ADINJC members, the Association of Professional Driving Instructors (South West) invited Lynne and Neil to run their ADI coaching seminar at their Plymouth headquarters. The day included sessions on the benefits of coaching, practical sessions and tools, tips and techniques for ADIs to employ when coaching their pupils. Bill Maggs, APDI(SW) Chairman said “On behalf of all the delegates who attended, thanks to Neil and Lynne for coming down to Plymouth, and successfully delivering a truly enriching coaching course. It planted the seeds of information for us to go away with, to nurture and develop in practise”. Bill went on to say “I would highly recommend attending your seminars to any ADI/PDIs who wish to develop their professional skills”

Sue Duncan, the APDI (SW) Secretary enthused, “The feedback was all very positive. As per my previous experience, it was a very professional, well delivered event. I am sure everyone will continue to feel the benefit as they get more into the coaching ethos”.

Lynne and Neil are running a series of these popular coaching seminars and are delighted to be taking them to local associations in different parts of the country. Lynne points out how keen she and Neil are to run follow up sessions to see how previous delegates have progressed in coaching and learn advanced techniques. As Bill said, “I am really interested in following up today’s session with another, with a view to help today’s delegates expand their skills base”.

Any associations who would like to bring a Lynne and Neil workshop to their group should contact Lynne at lynne@lynnebarrie.co.uk for details and costs.
